Eugene Edward Bolen, 98 passed away on March 1, 2018.
Eugene was born in Athens, Ohio on June 11, 1919 to the late Earl and Gladys Bolen. He served during WWII as a Sergeant with the U.S. Air Corps in North Africa from 1942 to 1946. Eugene was a machine operating engineer working with highway construction. He retired from Akron Paving in 1978. Eugene enjoyed being a licensed ham radio operator and building metal model cars. He also loved bowling and playing shuffleboard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Bolen; brother, Richard Bolen; and sister, Bernadine Pultea. Survivors include sons, Kenneth (Carrie) Bolen and Richard Bolen; sister, Brenda (Richard) Hummel; step daughter, Carol (Bob) Stella; grandchildren, Kelly Acheson, Chad Bolen, Richie Hummel, Lisa Romanini, Jimmy Hummel and Joe Hummel; step grandchildren, Shelley Swartz and Todd Swartz; and numerous great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received prior to the service on Wednesday, March 7th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be held immediately following on Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Richard W. Ferris officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park where military rites will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post 8487.
