Emogene Whittington

Verna Emogene “Emma” Whittington, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2014 after a long illness.

Born in Akron, she lived in the Portage County area most of her life. Emma was employed at Robinson Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church of Brimfield.

Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ethel Steele; sister, Mary King; brother, Herbert Steele; and nephew, Dale Steele, she is survived by her husband of 62 years, Oscar A.; son, Chuck (Pam) of Rootstown; daughter, Connie (Roger) Dishong of Marlboro; grandchildren, Tiffany (fiancé, Brian Wise), Roger (Sarah Lawver-Dishong), Kelly and Lucas Whittington; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Anderson, Avery and Evelyn; brothers, Herman (Pat) Steele, Hubert (Janet Vair) Steele and Howard (Mary Lou) Steele; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Robinson Hospice VNS and Coleman Adult Day Services for their wonderful care.

The family will receive friends Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m., and Monday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312, where funeral service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. with Pastor Whetsel officiating.
