Emily Jane (Shaffer) Abbott

Emily Abbott was born in Atwater, Ohio, on May 23, 1920, and went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2014.

Emily retired from the Akron public school system where she cooked for many years and was a long time member of South Arlington United Methodist Church. Mom was mainly a stay at home mother, raising five children in her two bedroom home. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was looking forward to being with her husband, Charlie, who preceded her in death in April, 2004. She was also preceded in death by sons, Charles Robert and Gary Abbott; two granddaughters; and sister, Norma Humm. Emily is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Abbott) Tighe of Galion, OH; son, Thomas (Alice) Abbott of Cle Elum, WA; daughter-in-law, Darlene Abbott; nephew, Chuck (Barbara) Abbott of Alpharetta, GA, who was raised by Emily; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday and 12-1 p.m. Saturday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312. Funeral services will be held Saturday 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Nan Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
