Elwood L. Akers, age 83, passed away March 12, 2018, after a long illness.
Born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Elwood lived most of his life in the Akron area. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber in 1998 after 31 years of service. Elwood was a Past Master and member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 47 F&AM. He was a volunteer fireman for 19 1/2 years with the Green Fire Department and was a longtime member of the Green Lions Club.
Preceded in death by his son, Marshall; sister, Shirley Davis; and parents, Elwood and Ethyl; he is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eunice “Irene”; daughters, Cindy Sarver (Tom Box) and Debra (Brent) Rawson; grandson, Nicholas Shaw; sisters, Nancy Santee and Kay Ansell.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312, where a Masonic Service will be conducted by the Coventry - Akron Lodge No. 83 F&AM at 5 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Mohlmaster officiating. Burial will follow at Greensburg Cemetery.
