“Jeannie” Benko, age 82, passed away peacefully April 14, 2015 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Akron, she lived in the area all of her life, and was a lifelong member of Arlington Church of the Nazarene, where she served for decades in the baby nursery.
Preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Myrtle Ruttig; and husband, John in 1981, Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Darla (John) Stirewalt of Chagrin Falls; grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew; brother, Carl Ruttig of Atwater; sisters, Darla (Jim) Absalom of Las Vegas, Nev., and Debbie Brownlee of Wadsworth; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and –nephews. Jeannie’s legacy of unconditional love will be remembered by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Arlington Church of the Nazarene, 1057 Triplett Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44306, with Pastor Darrell Frazier officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to the church.
