Elizabeth V. Makuch

Vi Makuch, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Born in Dillonvale, Ohio she graduated from Dillonvale High School before becoming a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio. Vi was employed as a secretary at Wright Patterson Airforce Base during WWII and Goodyear Tire & Rubber, “Mahogony Row.” But her most important role was as a homemaker and grandmother. She was a member of St. Matthew Parish and her interests included playing cards (Canasta), cooking, and shopping. She enjoyed watching tv and spending time with her family.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Anthony J. “Tony” Makuch; parents, Frank and Elizabeth Lengyel; and brother, Francis Lengel (Heliodora “Foo”). She is survived by her children, Michael A. (Anne), Melanie M., and Thomas P. (Bridget); grandchildren, Nancy (Andy), Elizabeth, Leah, Evan, and Mitchell.

Friends and family will be received Saturday, June 24th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Parish, 2603 Benton Ave. Akron, OH 44312. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Father Michael Williamson presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
