Eleanor M. Wasley, age 90, passed away on January 13, 2016.
Born in Axtel, Ohio, she lived in the Rootstown area most of her life. Eleanor was the youngest of nine children born to Martin and Anna Snezek, and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Rootstown and Peninsula United Methodist Church, Ladies Auxiliary, United Fellowship Club, Women’s Auxiliary of Mogadore VFW Post 8487 and Eastern Star. Eleanor served as the Portage County Fair Superintendent, worked for the Portage and Summit County Board of Elections, and volunteered at the Center of Hope in Ravenna.
Preceded in death by her husband, William; and son, Kirk, she is survived by sons, William (Pauline), George (Cindy), David (Diane), and Scott; daughter, Pam (Ron) Bof; grandchildren, Julie, Jason, Justin, Sarah, Abby and Jennifer; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Bella, Samantha, Cora, Emma and Joshua.
Friends and family will be received Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron/Ellet, Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be held Monday, 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Susan Woodall officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
