Edward Paul Wittman, 80, of Akron Ohio, died on December 5th, 2016.
Ed was a kind and loving father who was very proud of his five children and their families. His family feels fortunate that they were able to spend precious time with him during his recent battle with Lymphoma.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 16th at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron Ohio 44312. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday December 17th at Concordia Lutheran Church, 724 Sumner Street, Akron, Ohio 44311. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Edward was born to Lavonne (Eby) Wittman and Alfred Wittman on January 4th, 1936 and was raised with his sister, Althea and brother, Hubert. He graduated from Garfield High School and went on to serve in the Ohio Air National Guard on a team that performed Fire and Rescue for pilots and aircraft.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers and employee at Ford Motor Company for over thirty years before retiring. He also later worked at the Jednota Club and Jonko's, where he was literally known by everyone who walked in the door. During his life, Ed enjoyed golf, bowling and playing cards. He loved travelling to Chicago and Hawaii to visit with his family. Edward will be greatly missed by his many family members and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Althea (Bill) Verble; his daughter, Anita Wittman; and his four sons, Rick (Karen) Testa, Anthony (Bonnie) Wittman, Greg (Betsy) Wittman, Mark (Kristin) Wittman; as well as his nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Concordia Lutheran Church in Akron, where Ed was a lifelong member, or to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, 350 Opportunity Pkwy, Akron, OH 44307.
