Edward J. Harrison “E.J.”, age 65, passed away on July 12, 2016 at his home following complications from many illnesses.
Born in Akron, he was an area resident all of his life. E.J. retired from the City of Akron after 28 years of service, where he had been superintendent of the Street Cleaning Division. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting in southern Ohio, fishing in Lake Erie and Florida and was proud to have passed on his techniques to his children and grandchildren. E.J. also enjoyed being the pitcher on many softball teams, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth; and his grandfather, Valentine Hawkins, he is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sherry; sons, Mike (Tina) Denison and Kevin (Amber) Harrison; daughter, Kelly Harrison Coppinger; grandchildren, Cassidy, Gaige, Garrett, Tyson, Bryce, Hunter, Tyler, DeMarco, Soloman, Joey, Taylor and Tanner; sister, Sherry; and uncle, Jack Hawkins.
Per Edward’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Friends will be received at the funeral home Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. prior to the service. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
