Edna E Hines, age 101, went home to be with the Lord on Sept 04, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Edna was born in Webster County, WV on Oct 28, 1922. She married Donald B Hines just before the US entered World War II. When Don left to serve in the US Navy, she moved to Akron OH where she worked at Goodyear as a “Rosie the Riveter” building Corsair airplanes. After the war ended, Don joined her in Akron where they lived and raised their three children, Leo, Donna and Kerry.
Edna was a stay-at-home mom for many years. She then worked at the US Post Office for 20 years before retiring. During retirement she and Don enjoyed many years of RV traveling and wintering in TX and FL. She was a longtime active member of Clearview United Methodist Church. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family well.
Edna is survived by her children Donna (Marshall) Holmes and Kerry Hines; grandchildren Diana Bergdorf, Sherry Bitecofer, Paula (Scott) Calhoun and David (Chelsie) Holmes; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents Nimrod and Ellena Cogar; husband Don; son Leo Hines, sister Thelma Smith, and brother Wilford Cogar.
Edna lived most of her life in Springfield Twp before relocating in 2010 to the St Luke Lutheran Community in North Canton. There she received compassionate care as she progressed from independent living to assisted living to longterm skilled nursing care. The family extends special thanks to the staff of St Luke and to Aultman Hospice.
A private funeral service will be held Sept 08, 2024 at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Uniontown. Edna will be laid to rest in Uniontown Greenlawn Cemetery beside Don, her husband of 72 years.
