Doris E. (Church) Sherrill

May 7, 1934 — August 25, 2014

Lord, now lettest thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word. (Luke 2:29)

On August 25, 2014, our cherished mom, grandma and great-grandma took God’s hand and entered into Heaven to once again be with her husband, Jim; her parents, Conley and Mamie Church; her brothers, Louis, Conley, Jr. and Eddie Church; her sister, Wanda Bauer; and her nephews, Kenny Church and Michael Tully. Doris is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jack Klodt and Diane and Ross Pollock; her grandsons of whom she was extremely proud, Jarrod (Lindsay) Klodt, Bradley Pollock and Bryan Pollock; her great-grandchildren who brought her many joys, Sam and Lyla Klodt; her brother-in-law, Clyde Sherrill; her sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Church, Frances Tully and Lois (Dave) Gould; her cousin, Sally Mallory; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She is also survived by her “foreign exchange student daughter” from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Ginnie (Pou) de Castro and Ginnie’s husband, César and their children, Graciela, César Enrique and Máximo. Doris is fondly remembered by her “honorary daughter” of Akron, Ohio, Roberta Petrasek.

Born in Akron, Ohio, on May 7, 1934, Doris attended Akron Garfield High School. Doris was a long-time resident of Mogadore, Ohio. She was an active member of the Mogadore Christian Church. Doris recently retired from Community Health Center. She also volunteered for many years at Akron General Hospital and enjoyed her time there with friends. Doris especially loved attending her grandsons’ sporting events and was their biggest fan. She enjoyed traveling to warm and sunny places with her family and friends who always looked forward to her bringing “goodie” bags. Doris filled all the holidays with fun and smiles for her family, including giving unique Christmas stockings and making her delicious New Year’s Day dinner, as well as her famous red velvet “rat tail” cake. Doris earned the nickname, the “Energizer Bunny” from her daughters because she refused to allow her health issues over the past 20 years to slow her down. She just kept going and going, keeping a positive outlook and never complaining. Her incredible strength and courage and the wonderful memories she created will inspire and comfort us forever.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the MOGADORE Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), Mogadore, Ohio 44260. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Elmer S. Johnson and retired Dr. Eugene F. Higgins officiating. Burial will follow the service at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mogadore Christian Church, 106 S. Cleveland Avenue, Mogadore, Ohio 44260.
