Donald Moody Roberts, 89, went home to be with his Lord September 1, 2014.
He was born in Meadville, Pa. and lived in the Mogadore, Akron and Greentown areas. Don graduated from Mogadore High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army. As PFC 1st class, he served with the 8th Division, 121st Regiment at D-Day (Normandy, France), Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland Campaign. Don retired from Roadway Express and attended Springfield Assembly of God. He raised and showed horses, was a member of AQHA, and enjoyed bowling and family get togethers.
Preceded in death by Faith Roberts, his beloved wife of 58 years; parents, H.P. and Georgia Roberts; also his second wife, Blanche. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Donald P. and Susan Roberts of Barberton; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane C. and Patrick Mylett of Canton; Joy E. and Larry Dixon of Massillon; granddaughters and spouses, Amy & Gene Sommers of Doylestown, Sarah & Jason Wooden of Massillon, Rebecca & Timothy Beitzel of Louisville; grandson and spouse, Michael & Janine Mylett of Bradenton, Fla.; great grandchildren, Aaron, Caleb & Luke Sommers, Nolan, Evan, Owen and Baby Beitzel; Matthew & Jonathan Mylett; great-great granddaughter, Anna Mylett; sisters, Patricia Bella of Mogadore, Freeda Minier, Virginia Swartz and Carolyn Brown of Arizona, Pauline Calderone of Akron; sister-in-law, Hazel Burt of Mogadore; many nieces and nephews, and cherished and devoted friend, Carol Byler.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hennis Care Center in Dover, the staff and all those who personally cared for Daddy and Community Hospice of New Philadelphia, whose comforting care helped make Daddy’s home-going precious.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.), where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Joseph B. Serbin officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio where military rites will be conducted. The family suggests memorials to the Haven of Rest Ministries, P.O. Box 547, Akron, OH 44309-0547.
