Donald Hatherill, age 92, formerly from Stow and Atwater, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 3, 1931 in Akron, he was the beloved son of the late Wilbur and Inez Hatherill. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Preceded in death by Norma Hatherill (with whom they shared their three children), Jean Crano-Hatherill, Joan Myers and Mary Ellen Hartong. Loving father of daughter Michele (Scott) of Hudson, son Michael (Edward) of New York City and pre-deceased by son Mark (Yvonne) of Los Angeles. Beloved grandfather of Jessica, Peter, Andrew, Morgan and Mikayla and great-grandchildren Everett, Arlo, James, and Ellis. Devoted brother of pre-deceased Wilber Jr., Dolores and surviving brother Robert (Letha) of Tallmadge, also survived by his loving nieces Debbie, Lisa, Lynn, Robin, and Ranay.
Don graduated from Howard Vocational in 1949. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served his country from 1951-1953. Don was an executive with Akromold from 1949-1989. Don enjoyed numerous interests such as woodworking and needlepoint, sharing his creativity with his family and friends over the years. Additionally, Don gave his time and expertise in carpentry to all the people in his life.
Don’s warmth, generosity and faith were evident in all aspects of his life. He will be remembered for his laughter, kindness, that twinkle in his blue eyes and his love for his family and friends.
A wake will be held at 10 a.m., proceeded by a funeral mass on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd., Mogadore, Ohio 44260. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 2643 Waterloo Rd., Mogadore, Ohio 44260. The family will have a celebration of Don’s life immediately after the burial at the K of C Hall, 2617 Waterloo Rd. Mogadore, Ohio 44260.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Don’s memory to Transitions Health, 207 Portage Trail, Ext. West Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223.
