Donald R. “Don” Hammond, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2013.
Born in Inez, Ky., he lived in the Akron area for over 50 years. Don was employed as an independent owner/operator for FedEx Custom Critical for 25 years, and was a member of Millheim Baptist Church. Don’s hobbies included fishing, camping and woodworking, and he enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.
Preceded in death by his father, Charles Hammond; mother, Oma DeLong; brothers, Chuck, Herman, Claude and Thurman; and sisters, Opal and Emma. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna; daughters, Donna, Sherry (Marty) Jones and Patricia (Rob) Pearson; grandchildren, Alison (Scott) Stewart, Joshua Jones, Nick (Lyndsay) Pearson, Lindsey (Justin) Maio, Brad Balthis, Lexi Pearson and Sam Pearson; great-grandchildren, Gabe and Alex Jones, and their mother, Lexi Lancia; sister, Helen Graham; and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale St., UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.), where funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kim Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Uniontown Greenlawn Cemetery.
