Dominic Prunesti, age 89, passed away on August 19, 2017. He was born in Akron, and lived all of his life in the Akron area.
Dominic graduated from St. Mary’s High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Ritzman School after 20 years where he worked as a custodian. Mr. Prunesti was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, serving as usher and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Akron Metropolitan Hiking Club for over 20 years, and loved fishing.
Dominic was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert; brother, Frank “Tony”; and sister, Rose. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Elizabeth “Betty”; children, Dominic “Chris” (Jean) Prunesti, Joseph “Joe” (Misha) Prunesti and Ann (William “Bill”) Eikelberry; grandchildren, Aileen, Tony, Mary, Joseph and Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Madelyn; and sisters, Iola Paoletti, Catherine Pezzotti and Maria Stewart.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father Michael Williamson presiding. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice.
