Dolores W. (Vasko) Sobnosky, 86, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away on July 26, 2015.
Born and raised in Youngstown, she spent over 20 years in Hudson, lived in Akron and most recently resided at Cardinal Retirement Village in Cuyahoga Falls. She was a devout Catholic and very involved with St. Mary’s Church in Hudson, including the Altar and Rosary Society, and is currently a member of St. Matthew’s Parish in Akron, where she and husband Don enjoyed and supported the bingo program.
Dolores enjoyed arts and crafts all her life, and was an Emeritus Member of the Hudson Handicrafter’s Club. She shared her love of crafting, including crocheting, with her children, grandchildren, and friends at Cardinal Village. She enjoyed big family reunions and gatherings, and baking traditional family recipes including layered cabbage and kolache. She was also an avid Elvis Presley fan and memorabilia collector. In addition to being a housewife, she worked for the Hudson Park District, and was employed as a cosmetologist in her younger years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sr.; parents, William V. and Winifred A. (Summers); daughter, Monica Casteel; brother, William (and at an early age by her brother, Edward; and sister, Sandra). She is survived by her children, Deborah (Ron) Johnson of Spokane Valley, Wash., Donald (Elizabeth) Jr. of Wadsworth, Mark (Cheryl) of Hillsborough, NC, Kevin (Ruth Ann) of Stow, Robert (Lisa) of New Franklin, Gerard of Redondo Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Bret (Erin), Melissa, Kevin, Jeff (Kyndra), Donald III (Leslie), Amy, Denise, Michelle, Teresa, Amanda (David), Lauren, Kristen, Kelly, William, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Robert, Mark, Scott and Michael; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Lyla Jo; and sister, Margaret (Peggy) Yerrace; sisters-in-law, Audrey Dagan, Dorothy Kruger and Margie Sobnosky.
Mass of Christian Burial Monday, 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne St., Akron, Ohio 44312. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church.
