Dennis H. Elrod

Dennis H. Elrod, age 74, went home to be with Lord, Friday, October 13, 2023. After graduating Garfield High School in 1967, he joined the Navy serving four years followed by sixteen years in the Ohio Army National Guard. Dennis received his Associates degree from the University of Akron and retired as a Captain from their police department. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, traveling with friends and serving in his church.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Paula (Dobroski) Elrod; parents, Frank Elrod Sr. and Alberta (Thomas, Elrod) Capps; step-father, Alfred Capps; brother, Frank Elrod, Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Malissa Newman and Monica (Brad) Mason; grandchildren, Savannah Landis, Parker and Logan Mason; close family friend, like another daughter, Sarah Mentzer and family; brother, Roger Elrod; and sister, Lynda Rollence.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on October 23, 2023 at Springfield Baptist Church, 1920 Krumroy Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. The family will receive guests two hours before the service. A celebration of life will follow after the service. Private burial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank Aviva Hills in Canton, Ohio, Southern Care Hospice and all who helped provide care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).
