Daniel J. Pursley

Daniel J. “Dan” Pursley, age 73, passed away February 7, 2023.

Born in Akron, Ohio, Dan grew up in Barberton and graduated from Barberton High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Kent State University and his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Malone University. Dan was employed with Lockheed Martin as the Manager of Government Security, where he retired after 38 years.

He and his wife, Wilma, raised their family in the Hartville/Uniontown areas. Dan loved the outdoors and took advantage of every opportunity to be outside. He loved boating, fishing, hiking, sitting on the patio with his wife, and even enjoyed time working in the yard. Dan had quite a knack for woodworking and used his creativity and skills to make gifts for his friends and family. He loved bringing his (and their) visions to life. While he had many talents and hobbies, Dan could best be described as a “family man.” More than anything else in life, his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Geary and Beatrice (Werner) Pursley; Dan is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Wilma; children, Christopher A. (Leah) Pursley, Ryan D. Pursley and Andrea N. Aho; his grandchildren, Logan, Aidan and Teagan; siblings, Robert, Mary Berisko, David, William and Martha Hutchinson; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 11, 1 to 3PM at Hopkins Lawver UNIONTOWN Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, Uniontown, Ohio 44685, (one block NW of the square of 619 and Cleveland Ave.).  A Memorial Service will immediately follow, with Pastor Leah Pursley and Father Simon Mino, officiating.  Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude at stjude.org or a charity of your choice in memory of Dan.
