Dale E. Mercer

Dale E. Mercer, age 92, passed away on September 5, 2016. Born in Akron, he lived in the area all of his life, graduating from Central High School. Dale enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 18, and served during World War II in the South Pacific for two years. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 48 years of service. Dale enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Zelda; his parents; and sister, he is survived by sons, James (Sandra) and Tim (Denise); daughter, Pam (Robert) Patti; grandchildren, Krista, Kara, Kaysie, Michael, Shawn, Ryan and Brianna; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Friday, 1 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial with military honors will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
