Dale G. Hartong, age 79, of Akron, passed away January 6, 2014 after complex illness.
Born in Akron, Dale was a 1952 graduate of Ellet High School. He retired from Meggitt after 25 years of service, and was a member of Coventry Masonic Lodge #83 F&AM. Dale was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was Charter Captain of the “Banz Eye” fishing boat. He spent earlier years involved with his passion for drag racing, and enjoyed many years watching racing and sports.
Dale is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Kent; daughter, Tammy Ward (Bill); grandchildren, Chris and Jenn Ward; and many loving friends. Many thanks to Summa Palliative Care and Summa Home Health.
Funeral service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Pastor Michael J. Sobitz officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home. Private family burial at Uniontown Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, where Coventry Lodge #83 will conduct a masonic service at 6 p.m. Memorials in honor of Dale are suggested to Summa Palliative Care Fund, 525 E. Market Street, Akron, OH 44304; or the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
