Charles Sylvan Hugi “Chuck”, 89, of Stow, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on April 20, 2016.
After graduating from Clarington High School, he went into the army, supervised the personnel section of the 390th Antiaircraft Battalion, and received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) World War II Victory Ribbon. Charles was employed at Pennsylvania Crusher Corp, as a highly skilled welder and machinist for 39 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of New Hope and Springfield Assemblies of God. Charles served in Christian ministry through the Assemblies of God Royal Rangers program for over 40 years. One of his favorite quotes was “a man never stands so tall as when he kneels to help a child.” He was a loving husband and father, who loved God, his church family, pet cats ButterB and Tiger, and had a deep appreciation for nature, including camping, gardening and farming, especially working and growing up on the Parr family farm in Clarington, Ohio.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Delores; sons, Gary and Bryan (Sharon); and daughters, Sherry and Daun. His parents, Sylvia (Roush) and Charles; and grandparents, John and Ida Roush preceded him in death. He will sadly be missed by friends and family. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be Wednesday, 12:30 p.m., with Pastor Joel Soza officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
