Charles F. “Chic” Schrader, 73, passed away March 21, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. We lost a great man, husband, father and grandfather this morning.
He was born in Akron, and lived most of his life in the Akron and Mogadore areas. Chic graduated from Mogadore High School and attended the University of Akron. He was the owner/operator of Ohio Wholesale Auto, and was very active in Ellet, Field and Tallmadge coaching football, baseball and basketball. Chic loved horses and his dogs, and was also a harness race horse owner. He was an avid golfer, and was a mentor to many young men.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alice; and daughters, Tiffany and Krista, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary; son, Charles D. (Kelly); daughter, Charisse (Art) Jicha; grandsons, Charles T. Schrader, A.J. and Ryan Jicha; granddaughter, Amy Jicha; sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Murrel Johnson; brother-in-law, Bill Wayman and his son, David; nephews, Matthew and Michael; niece, Amy; great-nephews, Mason and Matthew; and great-niece, Whitney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Street, Akron, OH 44312 by Rev. Fr. Thomas McCann. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), MOGADORE, OH 44260. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 70 W. Streetsboro Street, Suite 201, Hudson, OH 44236; or Summit Adult Day Services, 812 Biruta Street, Akron, OH 44307.
