"Together Forever" Charles Clifford McDowell, 92, went home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2014.
He was born on July 15, 1922 in Central City, Pennsylvania to the late Lindley and Lottie McDowell. Chuck graduated from Shade High School in Cairnbrook, PA, prior to serving in the US Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He relocated to Akron following his discharge at the end of the war. Chuck spent 35 years as a Pattern Maker in the Akron/Canton area prior to retiring from General Motors in Mansfield in 1985. He was a long-time member of Springfield Baptist Church. Chuck was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, and will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, June; brothers, Glenn, Clair, Roy and Bruce McDowell; and sister, Edna Shaffer. He is survived by children, Tom (Anna) McDowell and Nancy (Steve) Josey; grandsons, Charles (Julie) Josey and Thomas (Heather) Josey; six great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Springfield Baptist Church, 1920 Krumroy Road, Akron, Ohio 44312 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Larry Baldridge officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Baptist Church.
