Charles C. Cleavenger was born June 6, 1928 and died August 23, 2012 after a courageous battle against cancer. His entire family was able to see and comfort him at the end of his life.
Mr. Cleavenger lived in Ohio all but three years of his life when he was stationed in the U.S. Air Force in Montana. He was employed by A & P Grocery Store, Lawsons, and the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority. Charlie was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Wayfarer Masonic Lodge #789 F&AM, 32nd Degree AASR Valley of Akron; Billow Chapter #483, and Carnation Sams Camping Club.
Charlie was a very good handyman who enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, camping, golfing, bowling and playing cards, especially bridge.
Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine; parents, Claude and Nina; brother, Millard “Bud”; and sister, Opal. Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” of 34 years of marriage; daughters, Marcinda (Bob) Franks and Mary K. (Bob) Mosher; grandsons, Timothy (Amelia) Mosher and Daniel (Bethany) Mosher; and great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Anna.
Memorial service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44312 with Rev. Bob Stephens officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time Monday. A Masonic service will take place at 10:45 a.m., and military rites will follow the service at the funeral home by Mogadore VFW Post 8487. Cremation has taken place, and entombment will be at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa, 444 N. Main St., P.O. Box 2090, Akron, OH 44398-6153.
