Calvin Dick Wenum, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2014.
Born in Mogadore, Calvin was a lifelong area resident. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a blimp mechanic and during the Korean War on the Aircraft Carrier USS Essex. Calvin retired from Goodyear Aerospace in 1987, was a member of Springfield Church of the Brethren and served as the Treasurer of the Mogadore Historical Society.
Preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; and brother, Carl Jerry; he is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Diane) and Gregory (Mary); daughter, Michele (Mark) Matheny; five grandchildren; two great grandsons; sister, Betty Feller; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service Saturday, 12 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), MOGADORE, Ohio 44260, with Pastor Kris Hawk officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park, where military rites will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post 8487. Memorials are suggested to the Mogadore Historical Society, 135 S. Cleveland Ave., Mogadore, Ohio 44260 or Springfield Church of the Brethren, 3500 Albrecht Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44312.
