Brook A. Briner, 63, passed away on October 1, 2024 while vacationing with his wife in Honolulu, Hawaii. The trip intended to kick off their retired life together sadly ended with his passing during the couple’s final swim in the Pacific Ocean before their planned travel home.
Brook was born on May 22, 1961 in Akron, Ohio to parents Keith and Sally Briner. He lived in Mogadore and in 1980 graduated from Mogadore High School and Maplewood Joint Vocational School focusing on their electricity curriculum. He was immediately able to find work at a local telecommunications company. This was the beginning of his career and he worked in the industry for the next 45 years until his retirement from Akron Children’s Hospital in May of 2024. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. Brook took great pride in having turned a job making $5 an hour into a career that allowed him to provide a comfortable life for his family. He will be deeply missed by the many friends and co-workers he acquired through the years.
But more than anything, Brook was a devoted husband, father and family man. He was married for 41 years to his wife, Paula, yet still insisted on opening her car door for her. He was a wonderful role model to his son, Douglas, and liked to brag to anyone within earshot about his son’s accomplishments. People learned not to ask about his son unless they had at least an hour to listen. In his free time, Brook enjoyed watching NASCAR and NHRA races. He was a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan and would plan his entire life around making sure he never missed a game. His favorite games were that ones he was able to attend at The Shoe with his son, an Ohio State alumni. He loved attending the Lake High School football games and watching the Blue Streak’s band show. Brook really enjoyed his new home and visiting with his friends and neighbors in their community pool.
Brook is survived by his loving wife, Paula, his son Douglas (Emma), his brother, Tom Briner (Wendy), sister Julie Estes, six step-siblings and three sisters-in-law and their families along with many other loving family members and friends who will miss him and his infectious grin.
