Betty J. Oplinger, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2016.
Born in Uhrichsville, Ohio, she lived in the Akron area most of her life. Betty was a loyal member of North Springfield Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Deaconess, and was active in the Presbyterian Women’s Organization. She enjoyed being active and volunteering her time in many community groups and clubs, but was especially proud of serving many years in the 6th Ward Democratic Club and as a poll worker. Betty was also a member of the Daughters of America.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1994; daughter, Tari Akom in 2015; and two sisters, Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Sandra; grandchildren, Michael Oplinger, Amy (Eddie) Nenninger and April Akom; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Friends and family will be received Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be Saturday, 12 noon at North Springfield Presbyterian Church, 671 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Pastor Lynn Thompson Bryant officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to her church.
