GREEN, Ohio – Betty J. Hodges, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018.
Born in Akron on May 30, 1928, Betty was raised in Ellet and later moved to Green where she had resided for many years. She was employed as a waitress at Islay’s Dairy and also at the old Akron-Canton Airport. Betty was a secretary for the Akron Detective Bureau and secretary/bookkeeper for Greensburg Sand and Gravel and Shipe/Elsey Landscaping. She was active as a room mother in the Green schools and belonged to the Ellet High School Alumni Class of 1946. Betty was a member of the Green Navy Mother’s Club, the Green AARP and the East Liberty Church of the Nazarene.
Betty inherited her love of working in her garden from her father, Hugh and her great-grandfather, Thurman Frame. She loved traveling and camping. Betty was loved very much and will be missed by all of her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Hugh H. Tripp and Genive G. Tripp (Frame); sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Thomas York; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Janet Tripp; son-in-law, Richard Eschman; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hodges; and an infant great-grandchild. Survived by children, Michael (Karen), Timothy, Roberta (Donald) Shreve and Daniel; brothers, Thomas (Joy) Tripp and Donald (Beverly) Tripp; grandchildren, Kelly, Rebecca, Sarah, Kirby, Michelle, Robert and Kevin; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, following the visitation with Pastor Jeff Layton officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Green Good Neighbors, P.O.
