Betty Lou (Reed) Hammar

Betty Lou Hammar, 90, went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2018, surrounded by her loving daughters at her home in Green, Ohio.
Betty was born October 7, 1928 in Bellaire, Ohio to Earl R. and Margaret I. Colvin. Following graduation from Akron East High School, Betty worked at Isaly’s on East Market Street where she met her first husband, Russell Clay Reed, who was an Isaly’s Milk truck driver. They married in 1950, built a home on Yerrick Road and had three daughters. On January 7, 1958, Russell died in a truck accident.
Betty went to work at Goodyear Aerospace in 1958 where she met her second husband, Floyd B. Hammar, Jr. They married on November 19, 1960. Betty became a full time homemaker until 1970 when Betty began her career as a bank teller at Akron National Bank and retired from PNC in 1990. Floyd died on February 7, 2016.
Betty was a dedicated and loving wife and mother to her three daughters Mary Lou, Linda, and Janet Reed. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought a special delight and joy to her life. Betty enjoyed sewing, baking cookies and pies, reading, making/crafting gifts and helping others. Betty was a member of North Springfield Presbyterian Church for the past 60 years. She particularly enjoyed the fellowship of Presbyterian Women’s Association and making pillows for Hospice.
Preceded in death by her parents, sister and husbands, Betty is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou Reed (Larry) Lisic (Orrville), Linda J. Reed (Jerry) Luttrell (Uniontown), and Janet L. Reed (John) Ristity (Mogadore); grandchildren Michael (Kerri) Luttrell, Andy Luttrell, Kelly Ristity (Todd) Zverloff, Brian Lisic, Jenna Lisic; and great grandchildren Kendal, Ava, and Ivan Zverloff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 29 at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, (Route 91), Akron prior to her memorial service at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend David Weyrick officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials in Betty’s name to North Springfield Presbyterian Church, 671 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. Betty’s family is grateful to Dee, our special friend, and to Crossroads Hospice for the care they provided our mom.
