Betty Jane (Barna) Black
June 16, 1934 – March 3, 2021
Betty Black went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, and was reunited with the love of her life, our dad, Roderick Black, Sr.
Betty and Rod were inseparable and worked side-by-side in everything. The years they spent on the farm were some of her fondest memories. Mom’s talents were numerous: fabulous cook, accomplished seamstress, and loving homemaker; but her greatest joy was her family.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roderick; parents, Steve and Mary Barna; siblings, Steve, Bob, John, George, and Mary Ann; grandchildren, David, Michelle, Emilene; and daughter-in-law, Debbie.
She is survived by her sister, Eleanor; brother, Bill (Pauline); brother-in-law, Bob (Hazel); children, Rod Jr., Sandy Whittaker (Duane), Karen Slabaugh (Dave), Tim (Vicki); twenty-three grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
After 86 years on this earth, Betty Black, our mother, has finished her race. She has given everyone who knew her a legacy to live up to. She fought the good fight of faith. She has taken hold of eternal life and has heard from her Lord, “Well done.”
The funeral service will be Thursday at Community Baptist Temple, 1435 Kelly Ave, Akron, OH 44306 with Jonathan Black, her grandson, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, March 11; from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. Please note due to these unprecedented times a mask is required while inside the Church.
