Bernhard J. Schapiro

Bernhard "Bernie" J. Schapiro, 84, passed away August 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Germany and lived in Northeast Ohio most of his life. Bernie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked at General Tire as a statistician before starting his own company, Statistical Associates. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and spending time at his home in Florida. Bernie was a loving husband and father, and adored his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by daughter, Karen Shapiro in 1976; he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ardelia; son, Gregory (Lynne); daughters, April (Allen) Sutton, and Kathy (Gerhard) Schmidt; grandchildren, Michael, Kristy, Mark, Eric, Bryan, Kaily, Jeffrey, Erin, and Jenny; great- grandchildren, Tyler, Kylie, Nicholas, Allison, Benjamin and Naomi; brothers, Jürgen and Rolf (Janet); many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank Annie, Renée, Jen and the Summa Hospice Team for all of their love and support during this difficult time.

A private memorial service will be held with Pastor Harold Bradley officiating. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Summa, 444 North Main Street, P.O. Box 2090, Akron, OH 44398-6153.
