Barbara Mary Vassel

Barbara Mary Vassel (nee Burtscher) of Barberton, formerly of Mogadore, passed away March 9, 2013.

Barbara practiced as an attorney for many years before becoming the Chief Operating Officer of Pastoral Counseling Service. She was an active parishioner of St. Matthew Parish where she was involved in many ministries. She faithfully served on the board of the Reymann Foundation for many years. Barbara was devoted to her family and loved to travel with them and her friends. She was always a person who put the needs of others above her own.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving parents Rita and George Burtscher. She is the devoted Mother of Brian (Jen) Suehs-Vassel and Jason (Jamie) Vassel. Loving sister to Bob and Mike Burtscher, and Michelle (Jim) Young. Cherished aunt to Grant and Bailey Young, David Burtscher, and Joanie (Nick) Furman. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Bridget.

Visiting hours in the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home 547 Canton Rd., Akron, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 11 a.m., at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton St., Akron, 44312 with Father Norm Douglas celebrating. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Randolph. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church or Pastoral Counseling Service, 282 W. Bowery St., Akron, Ohio 44307.
