Barbara M. Jackson, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2018.
She was born in Akron on July 27, 1933, in the midst of the Great Depression, to Loyse and Leona (Harwell) Pettit. Barbara graduated from Springfield High School and attended Kent State University. She lived in Fairlawn for many years and was formerly employed as a draftsman and computer programmer for The Norton Company. Barbara was a member of the Fairlawn City Women’s Club. She enjoyed bird watching, reading, knitting and was an active Bridge player. Barbara enjoyed tending her garden and was an excellent seamstress. She spent many happy days traveling with her husband and loved being with family, especially during holidays. Barbara was also an avid cat lover.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. Jackson; grandson, Jerry Bland; brothers-in-law, James Cochran and Jerry Reed; and her step-father, Louis Primack; she is survived by her children, George (Christiana) Ray, Linda Harrison, Sherrie Ray (Tim) Swallen, Wayne Ray, Steven Ray and Daniel (Kathrine) Ray; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sisters, Sally (nee Pettit) (James) Weiss and Betty (nee Pettit) Cochran, Reed. Barbara was also loved and will be missed by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Windsor Medical Center and Crossroads Hospice for the love and care given to their mother.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 24, 2018, 11 a.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312, with Chaplain Mark Ballard officiating. Cremation has taken place. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater East Ohio Chapter, 70 West Streetsboro Street, Suite 201, Hudson, Ohio 44236.
