Anthony J. “Tony” Makuch, 91, passed away April 21, 2013.

He was born January 18, 1922 in Dillonvale, Ohio where he lived until 1940 and moved to Akron in 1945. Tony served in WWII in the Army Air Corps from 1940-1945. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company while attending Kent State University. Tony retired from Goodyear Jr. High School as an Industrial Arts (Woodshop) and an Ohio History Teacher after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthew Parish, S.C.R.T.A., O.R.T.A., American Vets and the American Legion. Tony loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing and feeding his backyard wild birds. Every Wednesday he had breakfast with friends and teachers from Goodyear Jr. High.

Preceded in death by parents, Michael and Helen Makuch; brother, Michael and sister, Stella Ulczynski. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Viola “Vi” (Lengyel), whom he married in 1947 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Dillonvale, Ohio; sons, Michael (Anne), Thomas (Bridget); daughter, Melanie; grandchildren, Nancy, Elizabeth, Leah, Evan, Mitchell; brothers, John (Clara), Chester (Angie); and sister, Mary Talasis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father Michael Williamson celebrating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312.
