Anna Mae Parker, age 74, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Born on January 24, 1941 to the late Beulah and Carl Albert Peterson in Akron, Ohio, she was a lifetime resident of Akron and graduated in 1959 from Central High School. Anna Mae has organized class reunions and lunches with her high school friends for many years. She graduated with a degree in education from the University of Akron, where she was an Alpha Delta Pi and was also crowned May Queen in 1963. Anna Mae taught kindergarten and first grade in the Akron Public Schools for 25 years before retiring. She taught with passion and kindness and was a favorite teacher.
Anna Mae was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she has continued to bake communion bread through her decline in health. She has been an avid seamstress all of her life, and has stitched many beautiful quilts, cross stitch pictures and Raggedy Ann dolls. Anna Mae continued to give by donating many custom made, themed pillow cases to Akron Children’s Hospital. She was a diehard Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavs fan. Most of all she was a huge fan of her grandchildren and all of their activities.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim Parker (June 19 would have been 50 years); daughters, Jill Linville (Wallace) and Jodi Shultz (Danny); grandchildren, who were the love of her life, Jenae and Jessica Linville, Parker, Paige and Danielle Shultz. Also, her sister, Patty Lou Thompson (Ken); brother-in-law, Gary Parker (Lynn), Bruce, Trayce and Tom; nieces, nephews, many cousins and special friends.
Anna Mae inspired many with her perseverance and strength through constant pain from Rheumatoid Arthritis for 34 years. Her sweet yet determined spirit will be missed by all that were blessed to know her.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. TODAY (Wednesday) at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312; and Thursday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 833 Carroll Street, Akron, Ohio 44305, where funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Deborah Wissner officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore. The family suggests memorials to Bethany Lutheran Church.
