Andy Sikula, Sr. passed away on June 4, 2013 from complications after a two-year battle with kidney failure.
He was born an identical twin on October 7, 1944 in Akron, Ohio. He attended Mogadore schools. He spent his high school years on the baseball diamond, football field and basketball court, lettering in nine sports. When not involved in sports, Andy helped his parents in the family greenhouse/florist business. He graduated from high school as Salutatorian.
After high school, he and his twin attended Hiram College on full academic scholarships, played football and were residence hall assistants. He immediately followed with graduate work, attaining his MBA and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Andy’s passion was Business Ethics. He served as Professor, Associate Dean or Dean at five state universities. His last 14 years were at Marshall University as Associate Dean, Director of the Graduate School of Management, Richard G. Miller Endowed Chair and Professor of Business Administration. While at Marshall, Andy founded the DMPNA – Doctorate of Management Practices in Nurse Anesthesia, and was known in professional circles as the “Mother of Moral Management”.
He was the recipient of many university and community awards, including Outstanding Faculty Award from California State University, Chico in 1999, University Distinguished Artist and Scholar Award from Marshall University in 2003, and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Mogadore Schools in 2005. Andy authored over 20 textbooks and monographs, plus innumerable articles for professional journals. In 1980, Andy accepted a position as Dean of the School of Business at California State University, Chico. In 1981, he met and married Judy Roe. Andy enjoyed living near water, either boating or just sitting and watching the activity on the water. He loved country music. He was starting a new career writing lyrics, and has had several of his lyrics put to music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Sikula of Mogadore, and his oldest brother, Gerald Sikula. He is survived by his identical twin, John (Audrey); brother, Michael (Charlotte); sister, Anna (Tom) Miller; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sikula; wife of 31 years, Judy; son, Andrew Drew II (Sannie), daughter, Ana, son, Andrew III, daughter, Alissa (David) Dodds, son, Andrew AJ IV, and son, Andrew Arik V; grandsons, Andrew River, Andrew Jonah, Andrew Chase, William Sikula-Morales; and granddaughter, Ayla. Funeral service will be Saturday, 10 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Ave. (Route 532), MOGADORE, Ohio 44260, with Father Miron Kerul Kmec officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
