Aileen R. "Peg" McQuilkin, 81, passed away on April 7, 2012.
A kind soul with a sweet smile and a mischievous giggle, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 8, 1930, she lived in the Akron area most of her life. Peg was employed by General Tire & Rubber Company and the Akron Automobile Club. She was a co-leader of the Girl Scout and Brownie Troops her daughters belonged to in Silver Lake. Peg was a long-time member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church and sang in the Chancel Choir for many years. She was active in the Lydia/Ruth circle, the Tuesday Morning Women's Workshop and the Evergreens.
Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert A., in 2010, and her mother, Alice Stevenson Bates, in 2004, she is survived by her daughters, Susan Lyn McQuilkin (Dale Collmer) of Columbus, and Beth Ellen (Jerry) Martin of Koxville, TN; grandchildren Lindsey, Kaylor, and Michael Martin, of Knoxville, and special cousin Ray (Eleaor) Pry of Akron. She also leaves a special group of loyal and close-knit friends ("the gang") she has known since childhood.
The family wishes to thank her doctors, nurses and aides who cared for her, including Dr. Mark Smith and Dr. Arthur Dalton, and those at the Cooper Center where she received treatment for breast cancer. Special thanks go to Dr. Sameer Mahesh.
